Shoreline Management Plan: Public Comments Wanted

CORPS SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENTS ON SHORELINE MANAGEMENT PLAN:

The Corp is seeking input and suggestions on an upcoming shoreline management plan for the Thurmond Project.  This will specifically define what actions adjacent landowners can take to change or improve the shoreline.  “Typically people use the shoreline management plan to apply for a dock permit or to seek permission to do underbrushing along the shore,” said Chris Spiller, natural resources manager at the Thurmond Project. “It also describes the procedures to add electricity and water to a dock or build a walk or path to the dock.”

The public workshops will be in three communities from March 2nd through the 5th.

March 2nd

Lincoln Center, 106 May Avenue, Lincolnton GA 30817 from 6 pm-8 pm

March 3rd

McCormick County High School, 6981 Hwy 28 South, McCormick, SC 29835, 6 pm-8 pm

March 5th

Columbia County Public Library  (Hardin Performing Arts Theater),   4022 Town Center Blvd Evans GA 30809,  6 pm – 8 pm

(These will be come-and-go meetings designed to allow the public to discuss specific issues one on one with Corps representatives and to provide their concerns, ideas and opinions related to the Thurmond Project SMP.  There will be no formal presentation at any of the meetings.)

For reference, the current plan is available at the following link: http://www.sas.usace.army.mil/Portals/61/docs/lakes/thurmond/SMP_TOC.pdf
