Rainfall Above Average in May

With the first tropical storm of the year headed our way, it’s icing on the cake after receiving above-average rainfall last month.

The Thurmond Lake basin area averaged 4.63 inches of rain in May, almost a full inch more than the usual 3.7 inches. This is on top of the above-average rainfall the basin received in April that brought us above and beyond drought status. And with a tropical storm bearing down on us, it’s a fairly good bet that June will be at or above normal rainfall levels as well.
This is fantastic news for Thurmond Lake as well as the rivers, which are also running at full capacity. Predictions from the Corps of Engineers indicate that the lake levels should continue to stay at or within 3 feet of full pool for most of the summer.
