Nearly Record Breaking Rainfall at Lake Thurmond

Rainfall for August at Lake Thurmond was high last month, delivering about twice the average rainfall compared to what is typical for August. Lake Thurmond collected a whopping 7.4 inches in last month compared to the usual 3.8. This makes this the second highest Augusts to date! The winner goes to 1995 when Thurmond got 8.08 inches.

All of this above average rainfall arrived at a time that normally features greater evaporation transpiration, increased hydroelectric power demand and declining rainfall… All these factors work to lower reservoir levels.

For those who enjoy boating, you can enjoy higher lake levels for the end of the summer. We say, we’ll take that win in a year that’s been full of twists and turns.
