From helping clients buy or sell residential houses to developing large tracts of land, DeFoor Realty has a wide array of services to offer its customers.

While the company has a strong reputation for lake and land real estate, the staff excels in residential sales in established neighborhoods throughout the Augusta area. To help clients increase the value of their property, the firm also offers timber management and wildlife management services on large- and small-acreage land tracts, which can provide recreational opportunities as well.

“Not all properties are created equal,” says John DeFoor, associate broker. “They have different features such as ponds, road systems in place or they border the lake and have deep or shallow water at the dock.”

John works with his father, Lloyd, who started the company in 1980; his brother, Jeff, a Realtor; Jeff’s wife, Christie, who serves as a Realtor and marketing director; Hilda Reese, real estate coordinator; and a number of other Realtors who work for the company as independent contractors.

“We don’t compete with each other. We work as a team,” says

John, who got his real estate license while he was in college. “Someone can call our office, and any one of us can answer questions about any of our listings. We try for one of us to be available at all times.”

Because advertising properties is essential, DeFoor has listings on more than 70 websites; advertises on Google, YouTube and in many print publications; and is active on social media. However, the company’s true backbone is its dedicated staff, and customer service is a top priority.

“We try to be honest and upfront with people. We don’t just tell them what they want to hear,” John says. “We also have good relationships with lots of different banks. We help people get financing through traditional or private lenders.”

The faith-centered business works with properties primarily in Columbia, Richmond, Lincoln, McDuffie, Wilkes and Burke counties in Georgia and in Aiken, McCormick and Edgefield counties in South Carolina.

“Instead of real estate agents, we’re more like real estate consultants,” John says. “We try to figure out the best use of a property that will yield the highest earnings for our clients.”
