Columbia County, GA

Columbia County is a beautiful county in Georgia filled with history, recreational activities, amenities and all the shopping you need to make yourself at home. Columbia County embodies the north-west part of Augusta, the second-largest city in Georgia. Columbia County is bordered by the Savannah River to the east, Strom Thurmond Lake / Clarks Hill Lake to the north, Richmond County to the south, Lincoln County to the north, and McDuffie County to the west. Columbia County is home to many major thriving suburbs of Augusta, including Grovetown, Evans, Martinez and Appling. The southern end of Columbia County is also very close to Fort Gordon, Augusta’s Army base that employs thousands of soldiers. Homes in Columbia County are not hard to come by since it also boasts some of the largest subdivisions in the area, including Riverwood Subdivision, Ivy Falls Subdivision, West Lake Subdivision and many more subdivisions to build or find a home.

Columbia County is one of the fastest growing counties in Georgia, expanding by nearly 40 percent between 2000 and 2010.  Its population is just over 124,000 people, most residing in the eastern part of the county closest to Augusta. The median income for households in Columbia County is $65,507, which draws large retailers, shopping centers and restaurants to the county. Columbia County is full of activities and things to do, especially with access to Strom Thurmond Lake / Clarks Hill Lake, the Savannah River, the Augusta Canal and other bodies of water. Columbia County is also home to Evans Towne Center Park, which hosts concerts in its Lady Antebellum Amphitheater and includes walking trails, playground equipment and a dog park.

Strom Thurmond Lake / Clarks Hill Lake plays a big part in the recreation of many people in Augusta. Located in the northern part of Columbia County, the lake is known as Clarks Hill Lake by those living on the Georgia side, and it is called Strom Thurmond Lake by those bordering it in South Carolina. Thurmond Lake has many access points in Columbia County, including Mistletoe State Park, Keg Creek, Wildwood Park, the Fort Gordon Recreation Area and many private lake subdivisions. Lakehouses in Columbia County are in demand and provide a great way to enjoy the benefits privately from your own home.
